Skateboarding and DIY culture have enriched my life in immeasurable ways. The visual language of board graphics sparked my interest in art-making at an early age. It introduced me to music, and zines, and connected me to a diverse and inclusive community that broke through the barriers of age, race, class, and gender. It taught me to practice presence, and awareness, and to embrace failure and persistence.
Simply put, skateboarding has shaped my worldview, and I’m forever in its debt.
I was thinking a lot about the contrast of textures, more specifically the roughed-up, hard edge of a skated curb versus the softness and warmth of your favorite wool or knit sweater. How could I investigate that contrast with paint?
Coincidentally, I finished this piece on February 4th which happens to be National Sweater Day. Sometimes the universe speaks to you and you have no choice but to listen. Keep pushin' ya'll. We got this!
This painting is wired and ready to hang and would be a cherished addition to any home or art collection.
